<p>I'm sorry to hear you've been having trouble saving. Just to be
clear, Stylizer does not save a blank copy of the CSS file first.
It issues standard FTP commands to upload your CSS as you would
expect any FTP client to do. If you have access to your FTP server
logs, you can verify this yourself.</p>
<p>May I ask what you mean when you say that Stylizer freezes? Do
you mean that the entire application becomes unresponsive and you
have to kill it and restart it?</p>
<p>You mentioned that you have seen this problem reported several
times but the only issue I could find in reference to part of the
file being deleted was <a href=
"https://skybound.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/14364-saving-a-css-file-and-it-becomes-empty-after-the-save">
from 2011</a>, and this problem actually had nothing to do with
FTP. Was there another discussion you are referring to? We actually
do not have any open issues at the moment with respect to saving
over FTP.</p></div>Andrewtag:service.skybound.ca,2010-06-18:Comment/361080982015-02-25T07:53:59Z2015-02-25T07:53:59ZCSS file deleted on save<div><p>Thanks for replying.<br>
Apologies - a bit more detail: the right side of the window goes
into 'upload' mode (darkened with rotating dots) and stays like
this, although it can be right clicked and cancelled, then the save
option becomes permanently disabled, and a blank copy of the CSS
file has been saved to the server - meaning that the server copy of
the file has been overwritten and there is no option to save (so if
there is no backup copy all work is lost). I will check logs to see
what is happening.<br>
Apologies - it was a vague memory of having searched for this
problem in the forum before it probably has only appeared once.<br>
Incidentally I have just re-installed Stylizer on a completely
fresh re-intall of Windows XP on my PC and the problem has not
resolved, although it is happening much less frequently.</p>
<p>I am very happy with Stylizer otherwise and if I am the only
person this is happening to then I can put up with it!</p></div>timwatson68tag:service.skybound.ca,2010-06-18:Comment/361080982015-02-26T00:40:54Z2015-02-26T00:40:54ZCSS file deleted on save<div><p>I guess we'll need to see the logs for the FTP server to know
for sure.</p>
<p>What I suspect is happening is that the FTP transfer fails to
start (and thus "spins" forever) because Stylizer is unable to open
a second port to the FTP site to send the data. There are two
methods that an FTP client can use to upload to an FTP site, and a
<em>passive connection</em> (the most common) works like this:</p>
<ol>
<li>The client tells the server its intent to upload a
file.<br></li>
<li>The server says "ok, connect to me on this port to transfer the
data".<br></li>
<li>The client opens a second connection to the server on the
requested port to upload the data.</li>
</ol>
<p>If your firewall is set to block outbound connections on the
requested port, the transfer will simply fail.</p>
<p>Alternately, some FTP servers require an <em>active
connection</em>, which means that the client tells the server which
port to connect to, and the server initiates the second connection
back to you. If your FTP server requires an active connection, your
firewall's inbound rules may be preventing the FTP server from
connecting to you.</p>
<p>It may have nothing to do with your firewall at all; it could
just be a poor connection for some reason. In any case, if your FTP
server software is overwriting the existing file after step #1, but
before the second connection has been made, it would explain why
the file seems to have been deleted. Again, you'd need to check the
logs to know.</p>

<p>Did you make a typo here? Stylizer 6 does not run on Windows
XP...</p></div>Andrewtag:service.skybound.ca,2010-06-18:Comment/361080982015-02-26T06:42:18Z2015-02-26T06:42:18ZCSS file deleted on save<div><p>Thanks again. I will look at logs and let you know what's
happened next time the problem occurs. Maybe it's something to do
with my FTP server setup.</p>
<p>(Yes, Windows 7, not XP!)</p></div>timwatson68
